I actually rather liked Dan Reed Network's "comeback" album, 'Fight Another Day', a couple of years back; their first since resuming activity as a band in 2012 for DRN's 25th anniversary. Strong melodies, catchy refrains and, generally, great songwriting across a series of commercially viable rocked-up compositions that were spiced with soul and funk flavours.

Just over two years on and they've obviously had their creative juices stimulated by working on new material, as they have another album finished and set for release on 23rd November, titled 'Origins'. Ahead of its release, here we have a taster in the form of a single, 'Fade To Light'.

Featuring two versions of the song, a radio edit and what is, presumably, the final album version, there's a mere nine second difference between the two, with the latter featuring a different, vocal-centric intro... which, to my ears, sounds pretty radio-friendly in itself! Anyway, DRN have evidently continued their musical journey with another strong composition. Perhaps not as strong as some of the best tracks on 'Fight Another Day', but very likeable, nonetheless.

A straightforward mid-tempo, commercial rocker, 'Fade to Light' has a nice build up in the verse and bridge, before hitting home with a slow-burn refrain, featuring delicious vocal harmonies, that becomes more and more catchy with each new listen. And with the track supposedly all about hope and optimism, it's apt that all bodes optimistically for DRN's new album. But let's hope the other tracks are a notch above this one, and more on a par (or better) with those on 'Fight Another Day'.
